On July 29, the Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer (IDAC), Tohoku University, held a symposium commemorating its 85th anniversary. Under the theme “New Frontiers in Geroscience,” the symposium welcomed nine distinguished researchers from institutions in Japan and overseas.
The symposium featured keynote lectures by Professor Eiji Hara (The University of Osaka), Professor Yoko Hamazaki (Kyoto University), and Professor Joseph S. Takahashi (University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center). Speakers presented the latest multidisciplinary findings in geroscience, covering topics such as cellular senescence, metabolism, neuroscience, immunology, and sleep research.
The event drew around 70 participants. Along with lively question-and-answer sessions following each presentation, stimulating discussions continued throughout the breaks and at the reception. Addressing highly complex biological phenomena, the symposium offered multifaceted perspectives on the intricate processes of aging. The symposium also served as a significant milestone, supporting IDAC’s continued development and next-generation research toward its centennial.
