Abstract A chromosome is not just a carrier of genetic information but a huge physical structure inside the cell. We have been quantifying how the chromosome changes its structure during early embryogenesis of C. elegans, and analyzing its underlying mechanisms. In this seminar, I will present our recent results on the sizes of mitotic chromosomes and the mobility of interphase chromosomes. For the latter, a comparison with a polymer simulation will be presented.
